The Folio Builder panel  is one of two panels installed in InDesign with the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite tools. This panel is used to create and manage folio files and can be accessed  by going to Window>Extensions>Folio Builder in InDesign CS5 or CS5.5, or Window>Folio Builder in InDesign CS6.

To use the Folio Builder panel, you must first sign in to an Adobe account using an Adobe ID.  The circle icon at the top right corner of the panel will be “filled in” to indicate that you’re is signed in.

Note that multiple users can be signed in to an account via the Folio Builder panel. Any logged-in user can edit the properties of folio files created in that account. However, to edit the content of a folio, the user must have access to the InDesign layouts, either on a shared server or on the user’s local machine.

The Folio Builder panel has three views: Folio, Article, and Layout View. After the user signs in, the Folio View, which displays a list of all the folios created with that Adobe ID, will be visible. To navigate among the three views, perform the following actions:

  • To display the Article View, click on the right-facing arrow to the right of the folio name, or double-click on the folio name.
  • To display the Layout View, click on the right-facing arrow to the right of the article name, or double-click on the article name.
  • To return to the Folio View, click on the left-facing arrow in the upper left corner of the panel.
