Here’s TFP’s latest roundup of announcements and articles that highlight women’s roles in the evolving media landscape:

  • Marissa Mayer has faced some intense scrutiny since she became CEO of Yahoo last summer. Case in point: SDL has released a study analyzing the level of media attention Mayer’s major policy decisions have garnered. You can see the results in a slideshow on the SocialTimes website.
  • An article on Forbes.com titled “3 Tips For Succeeding In Digital Media ‘Like A Girl‘” urges women to leverage their strengths rather than trying to model themselves after men. Read it to see Elizabeth Schaeffer Brown’s advice on “how women in business can leverage their inner girl to achieve success.”
  • The Open Gender Tracker is a project funded by a Knight Foundation Prototype grant that aims to “make it easy for newsrooms and media monitors to collect metrics and gain a better understanding of gender diversity in their publications.” Current data analysis focuses on U.K. new publications, but you can contact the tool’s developers to learn more about using it to analyze your own data.
  • In hiring news, Cyndi Stivers has joined AOL.com as Editor in Chief; Carissa Rosenberg Tozzi has been promoted to Entertainment and Special Projects Director at Seventeen; Monica Herrera is on board at the relaunched Myspace as Managing Editor; Karin Tracy has been named Publisher at InStyle, following Connie Anne Phillips’ departure; and Melissa Mattiace is the new Publisher at Entertainment Weekly, replacing Tracy.
