Welcome to TFP’s roundup of hiring news highlighting women’s roles in the evolving media landscape—our first Women in Media post of 2014! There’s been plenty of hiring news since we last checked in:

  • Wendy L. Wilson has joined Jet magazine as Managing Editor. She was previously the News Editor at Essence and Essence.com and has had editorial roles at Teen People, InStyle and George magazines.
  • Susan Goldberg has been hired as National Geographic magazine’s Executive Editor for Text. She comes from Bloomberg News, where she was Executive Editor for federal, state and local government coverage. She was previously Editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and served as Executive Editor of the San Jose Mercury News.
  • Lisa Valentino is the new Chief Revenue Officer at Condé Nast Entertainment. She was previously Vice President of Multimedia Sales at ESPN.
  • Janice Min

    Janice Min

    Janice Min has been named Co-President/Chief Creative Officer of the Entertainment Group of Guggenheim Media, where she will oversee Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. She had been serving as Executive Director of The Hollywood Reporter since 2010.
  • Kristine Shine has been named President of the San Francisco Chronicle and SFGate.com. She joins the newspaper from celebrity news blog PopSugar, where she was Chief Revenue Officer.
  • Kate Lewis is on board at Hearst Magazines Digital Media as Vice President of Content Operations and Editorial Director for the business unit’s 24 magazine websites. She had been Editorial Director at Say Media.
  • Liz Danzico has joined National Public Radio in the newly created role of Creative Director. Among her credits is co-founding the MFA Interaction Design program at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she will continue to serve as chairperson. She has also been an independent consultant working on the design, planning, and execution of digital programs.
  • Leena Rao has been promoted from Senior Editor to the role of Managing Editor at technology news site TechCrunch.
  • Terri White is the new Editor In Chief at Time Out New York. She was previously Executive Editor of Life & Style Weekly.
  • Jacqui Cheng has been named Editor in Chief of gadget news site The Wirecutter and “home gear” site The Sweethome. She was previously an Editor at Ars Technica.
  • Kelly Olson is joining Atlantic Media as Senior Director, Government Executive Media Group & Defense One Events. She had been Director of Strategic Initiatives and Outreach for the U.S. General Services Administration.
  • Rebecca Carroll has been tapped for the role of Managing Editor of xoJane.com. She was the founding editor of Africana.com and has held editorial roles at The Aesthete, Paper, Artinfo.com, and The Huffington Post.
  • Abbey Klaassen, Editor of Advertising Age, has been promoted to Associate Publisher, Editorial and Audience.
