With the release of Adobe Digital Publishing Suite v30, a DPS app can contain relative navigation commands, allowing readers to easily jump to the first or last article, or to the next or previous article. Readers can also jump to a specific article relative to where it appears in the folio, such as the third article, or to a specific page in a particular article.

Buttons can be added to an app with a navto://relative action defined for these and other actions listed below.

The following examples show how to navigate to specific articles in a folio:

  • navto://relative/last (jumps to last article in folio)
  • navto://relative/last#last (jumps to last page of last article in folio)
  • navto://relative/4 (jumps to fifth article in folio)
  • navto://relative/4#2 (jumps to third page of fifth article in folio)

To navigate to specific pages of an article, use the following guidelines:

  • navto://relative/current#previous (jumps to previous page in article)
  • navto://relative/current#last (jumps to last page in article)
  • navto://relative/current#3 (jumps to fourth page in current article)

In Smooth Scrolling articles, use decimals or percentages to jump to a specific position:

  • navto://myarticle#3.3 (jumps to a specific position in smooth scrolling article that displays the bottom of page 4 and the top of page 5)
  • navto://myarticle#50% (jumps to the middle of smooth scrolling article)

NOTE: Relative navto links are supported in the iOS and Windows Store viewers, but currently are not in the native Android viewer, desktop viewer, or web viewer. Relative navto linking requires a v30 app version but will work with any folio format.

For more information regarding relative navto hyperlinks, see Adobe’s Hyperlink and Button Overlays page.
