When a designer is working on an InDesign layout there is no telling just how many swatches they will play with before they pick the ones they want or how many swatches are imported when art or text files are placed from other sources. Maybe the document just uses a lot of colors!

The new Sort Swatches feature has been added to help keep the swatches list organized. Just select Sort from the Swatches panel menu. You can choose to sort All Swatches By Name or All Swatches By Color Values. Select a group of swatches and the options to sort Selected Swatches By Name and Selected Swatches By Color Values become available.

Order Swatches are Sorted by Color Value

The order in which all or selected swatches are sorted based on their color values is as follows:

  1. CMYK
  2. Lab Color
  3. Mixed Ink
  4. RGB

Note: Swatches in each color mode are then sorted based on color values.
