Up your game With algorithm changes and the growing use of ad blockers, traffic to digital media sites took quite a hit last year: Publishers’ organic reach fell 52% due to Facebook’s new algorithm and some 60% of users 18 to 34 years old used ad blocking technology, further reducing the traffic to publishers’ sites. In fact, according to this week’s infographic pick from Campaign Monitor, these and other factors contributed to an estimated $41.4 billion loss in advertising revenue in 2016.

One way digital publishers are fighting back is email marketing, which our pick says drove 174% more conversions than social media last year. And with a projected 3 billion users by 2020, email is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative to social media and ads for publishers looking to grow their audiences.
