The wait is over! InDesign users now have the ability to add endnotes to their documents without requiring third-party products or scripts.

Create an Endnote

To insert an endnote into text, place the cursor at the point where the endnote reference number should appear and select Type>Insert Endnote, or choose the Insert Endnote command via the contextual menu. The endnote reference number is added and an endnote frame is automatically created on a new page at the end of the story or document, or the cursor loads for manual placement. A set of colored opening and closing markers signifies the endnote content. Endnote text can then be typed or pasted into the frame. A new icon in the lower left corner of the frame indicates that a frame contains endnotes.

You can easily navigate between the endnotes frame and its reference within long documents. Insert the cursor in the endnote text and right-click. From the context menu, select Go to Endnote Reference Number and the cursor will jump to the corresponding endnote reference number. This also works to navigate from the endnote reference number to the endnote text. With the cursor near the reference number, choose Go to Endnote Text.

Endnote Options

Endnote options define what paragraph styles are applied to the endnote title and text, control the numbering style, and define additional appearance and layout options. Choose Type>Document Endnote Options to access the dialog.
