Keeping your hands on the keyboard and using shortcuts can add up to big time savings. In Adobe InDesign CC, clicking the exposure triangle at the left of the font name in both the Character panel and Control panel font lists displays the font weights within a family, in a shaded area below the main family name. Better yet, font submenus can be revealed using the arrow keys and CMD key when the font list is displayed from the Character or Control panel.

Use a Shortcut to Reveal Font Submenus
  1. Open the Character panel by selecting Type>Character, or select the Text tool to activate the Control panel text options.
  2. Highlight a range of text on the page.
  3. Click the downward-pointing arrow in the font list area to reveal a drop-down font list.
  4. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move up and down the list until you reach a font that contains a submenu, indicated by a triangle to the left of the font name.
  5. Hold the CMD key (CTL on a PC) and select the down arrow to reveal the submenu beneath each font.
  6. Release the CMD key to select a font weight with the arrow keys.
  7. Hit the Enter or Return key to apply the font.

Designers who have large numbers of fonts to wade through are going to love this shortcut!
