Welcome to TFP’s roundup of news highlighting women’s roles in the evolving media landscape. Here’s a recap of the latest round of moves in the media industry at Twitter, the Guardian, Gawker Media, and more.

Katie Jacobs Stanton

  • Katie Jacobs Stanton is the new Vice President of Global Media at Twitter. She has been Vice President of International Market Development at the company since 2010 and has previously held roles at Google, Yahoo and the U.S. State Department.
  • Jane Martinson, Women’s Editor at the Guardian, is moving into the role of Head of Media, overseeing Guardian News and Media’s coverage of the media industry. Prior to joining the newspaper in 1999, she was with the Financial Times.
  • Emma Carmichael has been named Editor in Chief of Gawker Media’s Jezebel. She has been a co-editor of The Hairpin for just over a year. She was previously Managing Editor at Gawker and Deadspin.
  • Jennifer Gallo Hicks is the new Associate Publisher for Sales at Condé Nast Traveler. She had been the Vice President of Advertising at The New Republic for the past two years. She has also held publisher roles at Smithsonian, Modern Bride, House & Garden, and Elle.
  • Jane Spencer is on board at Fusion as Editor in Chief for Digital Content. She was a founding editor of The Daily Beast, where she was most recently its Executive Editor, and was previously a correspondent for The Wall Street Journal.
  • Melanie Altarescu is taking on the newly created role of Head of Strategic Initiatives at Wired. She was previously Executive Director of Integrated Marketing at The New Yorker.
  • Lauren Zalaznick is now a Strategic Adviser at fashion and style website Refinery29. She was most recently Executive Vice President at NBCUniversal.
  • Isabel González Whitaker is Billboard‘s new Deputy Editor. She had been the Fashion Features Editor at InStyle for the past seven years and was previously Editor in Chief of Hearst’s Tu Vida magazine.
