Periscope or Meerkat? There’s been a lot of buzz around live-streaming Twitter app Periscope and rival Meerkat, but who’s really using these apps and for what? This week’s infographic from Adweek, based on a poll by Horizon Media’s WHY Group, takes a look at how the new technology compares with the popularity of other social apps and factors driving use.

Our pick shows that respondents 18 to 34 years old are most likely to try the live-streaming apps (50%), and the thing that increases interest most is they’re free (59%). Most likely use of the apps? To share life events with family and friends.

For the most part, Meerkat beat out Periscope in terms of recognition, but the poll also found that awareness of Periscope and Meerkat in general pales in comparison to that of sharing apps such as Snapchat, Instagram, and Vine.
