Merry and bright yet? This is the time of year when many of us kick our multitasking skills into high gear as we try to fit various holiday activities into our already overscheduled lives. And while we like to believe technology allows us to work smarter, all of the gadgets and screens competing for our attention can in reality wreak havoc on our productivity and creativity, as our infographic pick from employee scheduling firm When I Work shows.

The numbers are revealing:

  • When multitasking, we take 50% longer to accomplish tasks and make 50% more errors.
  • Some 40% of our productive time is wasted switching between tasks.
  • Our short-term memory is typically capable of processing only 5-9 things.

While these findings and other research indicate the need to work differently, the question is, how do we do that effectively? See the full infographic The End of Creativity and Productivity as We Know It for some helpful ideas, and this holiday season, give yourself a gift: a calm, creative, inspiring work environment.
