Picture success In digital publishing, it’s all about visual media. In fact, Cisco projects that by 2019 consumer video will make up more than 80% of all online traffic—and a big chunk of that will be consumed on mobile devices. That makes compelling, platform-optimized images, design, and storytelling key to any successful content strategy.

To give you an idea of what’s resonating with digital audiences this year, Shutterstock put together an infographic highlighting top global creative trends, based on what users are searching for and downloading most.

For example, while our ability to connect is driving interest in smartwatches (+900%), omnichannel (+407%), mobile payments (+220%), and other technologies, we are also focused on unplugging, with popular topics including wanderlust (+197%), wellness (+169%), and mindfulness (+109%). When it comes to video, nature themes top the list, with a focus on the classical elements of fire, water, air, and earth.
