This week’s Podcast Pick is a Digiday Podcast conversation with Steven Kotok, CEO of Bauer Media Group, publisher of the highly successful Woman’s World brand.

Among a range of topics, Kotok discusses why VC-funded media companies haven’t worked: “I don’t think public ownership or VC-funded is the most successful model. They’re both built on constant growth.”

Also, noting that newsstand sales account for 75% of the publisher’s U.S. revenue—with Woman’s World selling more copies on the newsstand than Hearst and Condé Nast pubs combined—he explains why Bauer now sees itself as a “women’s service business [around which] we can build multiple revenue streams.” Along with that, he lays out plans to grow Woman’s World’s digital audience in 2019.

Listen in on how Kotok is approaching what the new year will bring.
