Here are some of the latest changes for people in media this past month:

  • Mahendra Durai was named chief information officer at Hearst. He was the former SVP and CIO at IT management software and solutions company CA Technologies.
  • Katie Connor has been named the new digital director of Elle, where she previously held the position of deputy editor.
  • John Homans was promoted to editor of Vanity Fair’s business and media site The Hive. He previously served as VF’s top editor for feature stories.
  • Jeff Dufour has been promoted to editor-in-chief of National Journal Daily. Dufour most recently served as a senior editor.
  • Kyle Trygstad has been promoted to editor-in-chief of the National Journal Hotline. He was formerly the editor of the outlet.
  • Noreen Malone has been promoted to editorial director of New York magazine. She most recently served as the magazine’s features editor. 
  • Genevieve Smith, former editor-at-large at New York magazine has been promoted to the role of features director.
  • Matthew Kaminski, former global editor of Politico, has been promoted to editor-in-chief.
  • Lesley McKenzie was named managing editor of Variety. McKenzie previously served as the deputy editor of C magazine.
  • Lillian Yim is the new executive director of e-commerce at Harper’s Bazaar. Previously, she was the senior VP of digital merchandising at Barney’s New York.
  • Brandan Smyth was promoted to publisher of Family Circle. He was most recently the publisher of Meredith’s Health magazine.
  • Maria Jakubek has been promoted to publisher of Health. She most recently served as advertising director of Shape.
  • Emma Moody was named standards and ethics editor for The Wall Street Journal. Moody most recently served as WSJ’s deputy chief news editor.
  • Howard Altman has been made managing editor for Military Times. Most recently, he was a military senior reporter for the Tampa Bay Times.
  • Blake Hounshell was promoted to editorial director of Politico.com. He had been the top editor of the Politico magazine.
  • Aminda Marqués González has been named editor and publisher of the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald. She is the former executive editor of the Miami Herald, el Nuevo Herald and the Bradenton Herald.
  • Jonathon Sturgeon was named editor-in-chief of The Baffler. He previously served as senior editor.
  • Jen Ator was tapped as the new editor-in-chief of Women’s Running. She most recently served as fitness director of Women’s Health.
  • Michelle Panzeras has been named chief marketing officer of Hearst Autos. She most recently served as SVP of strategic marketing and the head of digital publishing at Say Media.
  • Deanna Brown was named president of the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group. She previously served as a managing director for parent company Valence Media.
  • Kristina Stewart Ward was named editor-in-chief of Avenue magazine. She previously served as executive editor of Harper’s Bazaar.
  • Melissa Jewsbury, former production director, has been promoted to managing editor of Newsweek.
  • Hank Gilman has been named editorial director of Newsweek. Most recently, he held the position of deputy editor of Fortune.
  • Katrina Trinko has been named editor-in-chief of The Daily Signal. She previously served as managing editor
  • Chris Lehmann has been named editor of The New Republic. He recently served as consulting editorial director at the magazine.
  • Dan Peres has been named editor-in-chief of Gawker. He most recently served as editorial director for The Players Tribune.
  • Kristina Stewart Ward has been named editor-in-chief of Avenue magazine. She is a veteran of Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Hamptons and Quest.
  • Tom Lowry  has been promoted to editor-in-chief of Skift. He most recently served as managing editor.
  • Matthew Kaminski has been named editor-in-chief at Politico. He previously served as global editor.
  • Sharon Silke Carty has been named editor-in-chief at Car and Driver. She is a veteran automotive journalist and comes from Automotive News.
